Remedial massage is used to help relieve tension and stress in the soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons, ligaments and connective tissue. It helps to alleviate soft tissue discomfort associated with everyday and occupational stress, over-use injuries e.g. tendinitis, and many chronic pain conditions.  An increase in circulation and increased joint flexibility are additional benefits.

Other benefits include:

  • Aids in recovery of sporting injuries

  • Improves joint mobility

  • Aids in the prevention of  postural problems that are often associated with discomfort and pain

  • Reduces/prevents headaches

  • Assists with arthritic and rheumatic conditions

  • Stimulates local blood supply and lymphatic fluid

  • Reduces levels of anxiety

  • Assists in stress management and times of grief

lymphaticdrainage

The lymphatic system is the garbage disposal unit of the body. Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) therapy has been developed to stimulate the lymphatic flow in vessels and lymph nodes and to clear any blockages. It is a gentle massage technique which involves direction specific strokes that help remove waste products and toxins from the body’s tissues, which is particularly important for people with lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema is recognized by an unusual swelling in any part of the body. It is most common in legs or arms after surgery or radiation therapy. Lymphoedema can be successfully managed with complex physical therapy (CPT). CPT involves MLD, bandaging or the wearing of a compression garment, skin care and special exercises, including hydrotherapy.
